Job Description

 Status: Full-time

Location: Head Office, 5200 Orbitor Drive, Mississauga
Schedule: Regular business hours – 8am to 5pm

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, this role will require identifying and developing innovative ideas to grow Gay Lea’s business across key categories.  This opportunity will allow incumbent to demonstrate and strengthen their marketing leadership skills and further their hands-on experience.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Manage strategic development and execution of category marketing plans to deliver short and long-term sales and profit targets for assigned product categories
  • Caretaker for all assigned products/ categories following up any product quality issues / concerns with other cross-functional teams including production, QA and Sales.
  • Determine appropriate objectives and strategies for all elements of the marketing mix following consumer and business reviews and review of consumer research
  • Monthly review of consumer sales for assigned brands/ categories including analysis of Nielsen and other syndicated research data
  • Responsible for brand / category P&L and influence all areas of P&L including management of annual category budgets for both Trade and Consumer spending
  • Lead category’s introduction of new products and programs including research, product development, packaging, pricing, and communication strategies
  • Prepare post-performance evaluation and analysis of the executed strategies and determine their effectiveness in meeting profit and market share objectives
  • Demonstrates teambuilding strengths by playing an active role in developing direct reports and/or team members
  • Manage projects with both internal Gay Lea teams and outside agencies
  • Perform review and analysis of expenses, and trade spend budgets
  • Participate at all trade and consumer shows
  • Work closely with Gay Lea retail and foodservice sales teams to uncover issues and opportunities on assigned products/ categories including “work-with” days


Qualifications & Competencies:

  • University degree in business (preferably with a focus marketing focus)
  • Minimum 4 years marketing experience is required, ideally within a food or CPG environment
  • Advanced computer skills required, including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other MS applications
  • Experience in consumer research with focus on analysis of Neilson data
  • Financially savvy with solid understanding of brand P&L
  • Self motivated with high energy, ability to multi-task and execute multiple projects on time and on budget
  • Willing and able to take the initiative in uncovering and implementing business building ideas
  • Experience with Digital Marketing/ Social Media an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal
